MCC Deemed MBBS Round 1 Result Analysis 2026

Closing ranks fell sharply from 2025, and 496 seats are still vacant going into Round 2. Here is where they are.

Last updated 2026-08-26 · figures are from the published counselling documents named on this page.

Round 1 of the MCC deemed-university counselling closed with 496 of 4,750 seats still vacant across the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry deemed universities. That vacancy is the whole opportunity in Round 2 — and the closing ranks show it moved a long way from last year.

The headline: ranks fell hard

At almost every college the Round 1 closing All India Rank in 2026 is far deeper than the 2025 figure. Candidates who assumed last year's closing rank was the bar to clear will have written off colleges that were, in fact, well within reach.

Where the room is. J R Medical College, Villupuram finished Round 1 with 173 seats unfilled — the largest block in the pool. At the other end, 5 colleges filled every seat in Round 1 and will only reopen if allotted candidates fail to report.

What this means for your Round 2 choice list

Two things follow. First, a deep Round 1 closing rank is an invitation, not a warning — if your rank is anywhere near it, fill that college. Second, vacancy is not evenly spread: a handful of colleges hold most of the unfilled seats, and those are where a mid-range rank converts. Filling only the famous names and skipping the colleges with real vacancy is how candidates end up with nothing in Round 2.

Deemed seats carry no category reservation. Every candidate is ranked on the same All India Rank, whatever their category. And deemed fees are in a different league from state quota — check the number before you fill the choice.

Frequently asked questions

Do deemed universities have category reservation?

No. Deemed university MBBS seats are allotted purely on All India Rank through MCC. SC, ST, OBC and EWS reservation do not apply to this pool, which is why the closing ranks look so different from government college cutoffs.

Will Round 2 closing ranks go deeper than Round 1?

Usually yes, because unfilled seats plus seats released by upgrading candidates both enter the Round 2 matrix. How much deeper depends on how many Round 1 allottees report and join.

Why did closing ranks fall so much from 2025 to 2026?

The number of qualified candidates and the score distribution change every year, and the fee levels at deemed universities filter who actually fills those choices. A deeper closing rank does not mean the college declined in quality.

What is the difference between seats allotted and seats joined?

Allotted means MCC assigned the seat in that round. The candidate still has to report and join. Seats allotted but not joined return to the pool for the following round, so real vacancy at the start of Round 2 is usually higher than the Round 1 vacancy figure.
