Ranks and NEET marks called in Round 2

Round 2 rules that decide what you should do

Upgrading costs you the Round 1 seat. If you opt for upgradation and are re-allotted in Round 2, you must relinquish the Round 1 seat and join the new one. You have no rights over the Round 1 seat afterwards — even if you never report to the Round 2 college. So only opt for upgradation if you would genuinely accept every college you list.

Fresh allotments get a free exit. A candidate freshly allotted in Round 2 who does not report can still take part in later rounds without forfeiture. That protection does not extend to upgrade cases.

Fill choices against the virtual vacancy list. Virtual vacancies are seats held by candidates who have opted to upgrade and will be released if they do. TN processes them on 9 September — the day choice filling opens — so a college showing no clear vacancy today can still be allotted to you.

Choose preferred colleges only. Allotment is strictly by rank down your locked list. Listing a college you would not actually join is how candidates end up trapped in a seat they did not want.

Fee payment is part of downloading the allotment order. Freshly allotted candidates must pay tuition fee online to download the provisional allotment order. SC/SCA/ST/SCC candidates allotted under Government and Management Quota are exempt from the upfront payment subject to the parental income condition in the notification.

Round 2 result day — what happens on 15 September

Joining extended (Notification No.27, 18 September): allotment order download till 19 September, 12:00 noon; last date of reporting to the college 19 September, 5:00 PM — the Committee cites candidates’ representations and the MCC All India Quota schedule. Notification ↗

The result is published on the same portal you filled choices on. Three groups of candidates read it differently:

Not upgraded / not allottedYou keep the Round 1 seat (if joined) or wait for Round 3Nothing on the portal; watch for the Round 3 vacancy after 18 September

Fee at download. The allotment order is released only after the tuition fee is paid online; SC/SCA/ST/SCC candidates under Government and Management Quota are exempt from the upfront payment subject to the parental income condition. Documents to carry: the allotment order, NEET 2026 admit card and scorecard, class 10 and 12 mark sheets, transfer and conduct certificates, community and nativity certificates, and the 7.5% eligibility certificate where applicable.

Resignation portal for Round 1 joiners

Under Notification No.25 (7 September) the resignation portal has been open since 9 September. It applies only to candidates who joined in Round 1; a candidate who never joined has nothing to resign. Log in with the original credentials, download the resignation letter and hand it to the college for return of the originals. Resign before the Committee’s stipulated date and it is a free exit — no fee forfeiture — but the seat is then shown vacant in the next round and cannot be claimed back.

After Round 2: Round 3 and the stray round

Round 3 is open — checked 29 September 2026. The Selection Committee’s tentative Round 3 schedule (27 September 2026) is: registration and payment 28 September to 30 September, 5 PM; choice filling and locking 1 October (2 PM) to 9 October (5 PM); allotment 10–11 October; result 12 October; last date of joining 14 October, 5 PM. The same dates apply to the 7.5% government-school reservation. The official Round 3 vacancy list is not posted yet (virtual vacancies are processed on 30 September): expected Round 3 seats, college-wise. The All India Quota round is ahead: MCC published its Round 3 vacancy on 23 September, revised 24 and 25 September (6,191 seats, college-wise); AIQ choice filling closed on 28 September and the AIQ Round 3 result is due 30 September. MCC’s AIQ and State Schedule of 14 September 2026 sets the outer window every state keeps to:

State round (all states) Counselling window Last date of joining State verifies joined data
Round 328 Sept – 9 Oct 202614 Oct 202615 Oct 2026
Round 4 (stray vacancy)17 – 21 Oct 202626 Oct 2026—

Seats reaching Round 3 are the ones nobody is allotted on 15 September, the ones not joined by 19 September, and Round-1 seats given up through the resignation portal. The Committee normally publishes that vacancy college-wise a few days after the joining deadline.

College-wise seats in Tamil Nadu MBBS & BDS counselling

The seats Round 2 was played for. As on 10 September 2026 the Committee showed 3,514 seats vacant in the 92.5% pool and 70 in the 7.5% pool — not the 9,820 below, which is the position before Round 1. The Round 2 result of 15 September allots from that list: Selection Committee vacancy PDF, as on 10-09-2026 ↗
250 MBBS seats added into Round 2 on 9 September (Notification No.027): APS Medical College, Kancheepuram — 150 seats, new college; Madha Medical College, Chennai +50; Arunai Medical College, Tiruvannamalai +50. Candidates who had already submitted were allowed to edit, re-order and add choices for these three colleges before locking on 13 September. Notification ↗

The table below is the Selection Committee's college-wise, community-wise list — 82 colleges, 9,820 seats — as it stood on 24 August 2026, after special category allotment and before Round 1. It is kept here because it is the only community-wise breakdown the Committee publishes; after Round 1 it reports government quota as a single undivided number.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I see my Tamil Nadu Round 2 allotment?

Sign in to the portal you registered on - counug.tnmedicalonline.co.in for the 92.5% pool, or the 7.5% portal for government-school candidates - with your application number and password. The Selection Committee also publishes the full college-wise allotment list as a PDF on tnmedicalselection.net, and on result day that PDF is usually readable long before the portal stops timing out.

I have been allotted. What has to happen before the deadline?

Three things, in order: pay the tuition fee online, download the provisional allotment order, and report to the college in person with your original certificates. The download closed at 12:00 noon on 19 September 2026 and reporting at 5:00 PM the same day, both extended by one day under Notification No.27. A seat that is not joined by the deadline goes back into the pool for the next round.

I was upgraded but I preferred my Round 1 college. Can I stay?

No. An upgrade is automatic and final: the moment Round 2 moves you, the Round 1 seat is released to the next candidate and cannot be recovered. This is the single most common regret in Tamil Nadu counselling, and the only protection against it is not listing a college in Round 2 that you would not actually attend.

Nothing changed for me in Round 2. Is that a rejection?

No. If you asked for an upgrade and did not get one, you keep the Round 1 seat you already hold and nothing on the portal needs your action. If you held no seat and were not allotted, your rank simply did not reach any college you listed - you stay in the process and can take part in Round 3.

What is the difference between the 92.5% and 7.5% lists?

They are separate pools with separate rank lists. The 7.5% list is reserved for students who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools and is counselled on its own merit list, which is why its closing marks read well below the general list for the very same college. A candidate appears on one list, not both.

Can I give up a seat without losing money?

Tamil Nadu opened a resignation portal for Round 1 joiners under Notification No.25. Resigning before the Committee's stipulated date is a free exit with no forfeiture of fees, but the seat is then shown vacant in the next round and you cannot claim it back. Read the current notification before you resign - the rule differs by round and by quota.

How many seats does Tamil Nadu MBBS and BDS counselling actually cover?

The Round 2 vacancy statement covered 9,820 seats across 82 colleges - government, self-financing, private university and ESIC, in both MBBS and BDS. The college-wise table on this page gives the community-wise split for every one of them.

When are the TN Round 3 dates?

The Selection Committee’s tentative Round 3 schedule (27 September 2026) is: registration and payment 28 September to 30 September, 5 PM; choice filling and locking 1 October (2 PM) to 9 October (5 PM); allotment 10–11 October; result 12 October; last date of joining 14 October, 5 PM. The same dates apply to the 7.5% government-school reservation. The stray-vacancy round follows MCC's frame of 17 to 21 October.

Where will the Round 3 seats come from?

Three places: seats nobody was allotted in Round 2, seats allotted to candidates who did not join by the deadline, and seats given up through the resignation portal. Only the first of those is known today, which is why any pre-official Round 3 vacancy figure is a floor rather than a forecast.

Do my Round 2 choices carry over to Round 3?

No. Every round of Tamil Nadu counselling takes a fresh choice list. Nothing you filled or locked in Round 2 survives into Round 3, and a candidate who does not fill choices again is simply not considered for allotment.
